Rapunzel - "Tangled" canvas by Arbetta Rapunzel - "Tangled" canvas by Arbetta
When I first heard about "Rapunzel" (she was still "unbraided" :P) I inmediately fell in love with the whole idea of the film being something like a "moving painting". Well, time passed and the project changed, but I still LOVE all the artwork from this movie. This is my first attempt at making an oil painting copying the concept art. Hope you like it! ^_^

this is stunning work  great work. I'm starting a a new painting and doing  Rapunzel close up with her face facing the side going to use this for reference for saying this is your first attempt at oil it is very realistic and looks just like a victorian era professional painting love the colors. I like that you made y her dress different colors she looks pretty in blue and white. It look s like you took your time cause the detail in her hair and face is very disney like and has great texture. I might do my own colors also when starting  my painting. This piece is so nice i am gina use it as a reference with your permission, I'm  gona check with my art professor what chemicals to set up when using oils so that i can get back to working at home with my many oils paint i haven't used  up yet , but for now i decide to use acrylic I'm using acrylic for my piece. Going to use different colors myself for her dress to.   just at of curiosity did  you gesso your canvas before starting or did it come already pre gessoed.
Clap Clap Clap great work

"A moving painting" is pretty much how people describe the artwork in "Sleeping Beauty" and "Hercules". :)

¡Me he enamorado!

beautiful! I , too, was psyched to hear about "unbraided" it's a shame they had to change crap around so much.

I love the dark background in contrast to her blonde hair! What medium did you use?

Yes, they changed it soooo much... I am afraid they got rid of some beautiful ideas in the way, but the final product is not so bad. In fact, it's pretty good. Specially pretty :aww:

I used a hard cardboard I had at home that absorbed the oil painting a lot, and the effect was nice so I continued. I spent almost three weeks on this because I didn't want to get the hair like "real" hair, but more like the concept art this is based upon. I used a palette knife for that :meow:

Thanks a lot for your comment and the watch, I am honoured!

I know what you mean. There's just something lost when they use digital art. The concept art is a lot more.. Ahh idk how to explain it. xD

Me too! XD It has more artistic value, I think, but you can't achieve that kind of "art" in a whole animation movie if you want it to succeed nowadays. Anyway, I think the movie, even in CGI, it's going to show us some great scenes that capture this kind of art. The style, I think, will prevail :D

I hope so! (: Because I only like a few 3D animation movies.. Some of them are just really.. blahhh. d: But Disney always wins!

Disney is always good, but I don't like all of their movies (specially not the 3D ones, not talking about PIXAR here, that's another league). But I have the feeling that "Tangled" is going to be an epic win! :D
